Tin-glazed earthenwrae painted in blue, yellowish-green, yellow, and orange with a blue chequered medallion surrounded by four exotic Tudor Roses on leafy stems growing from a mound; blue dash border

Earthenware, the front tin-glazed and painted in blue, yellowish-green, yellow, and orange; the reverse covered with lead-glaze with radiating streaks. Circular with deep curved sides and everted rim, standing on a footring. The front is decorated with a central medallion chequered in blue, surrounded by four large exotic Tudor Roses, on leafy stems springing from a conical mound. Round the edge there is a wide yellow band and closely-set blue dashes. On the back, painted underglaze in blue on the side, is the monogram WB.

History note: Unknown Cambridge vendor; S. Fenton, Cranbourn Street, London, from whom purchased for £2.10s.0d. (50s.)on 27 May, 1907, by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
