Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, green, yellow, manganese-purple and red

Buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted in blue, green, yellow, manganese-purple, and red. The oval dish has a slightly convex base, convex sides with a wavy stem of tendrils, flowers and buds in relief, and a shaped upper edge with three scallops and a small v-shape repeated round it, within which is a ledge on which the cover rests. The domed oval cover has a knob or handle in the form of a seated cock which is hollow underneath. The sides of the dish are yellowish-green, the stem and tendrils are painted in blue, the flowers in yellow and red, and the buds in red. The cover is green, and the cock is painted in all the colours.
