Description

Bone china with two handles and pierced cover, painted in Imari style

Bone china, painted underglaze in blue and overglaze in red, green, and gold. The pail has deep slightly curved sides and a scalloped rim with two vertical handles pierced by heart-shapes. The low domed cover is pierced by twelve circular holes and has a flat button-shaped knob. The exterior of the pail is decorated with a continuous Oriental garden with fences and flower plants, and above it with a broad complex border of waves, scrolls, and plant motifs. The cover is decorated with a circle of flower heads and a narrower border. The top of the knob is gilded.
