Description

Hard-paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilt

Hard-paste porcelain, moulded, and painted overglaze in blue, yellow, pink, dark puce, grey, and black enamels, and gilt. The flat underside is unglazed and has a small cicular ventilation hole at the back. The shallow irregularly shaped base has a lightly scrolled edge picked out in gold, and rises up at the back into low tree stump. Mezzetin strides forward with his left leg and right arm are advanced, and in his left hand he holds a purse. He wears a black hat, a white falling collar, a blue jacket with gold buttons and edging, pink breeches with dark puce bows at the knees, a pale yellow cloak, and black shoes with yellow bows.
