Description

White salt-glazed stoneware decorated with gilding

White stoneware, thrown with moulded and applied handle and spout, incised and breadcrumb decoration, salt-glazed and gilded. Moulded knob on lid. The teapot has a globular body, standing on a low foot. It has a curved spout with a male mask underneath and a spray of flowers on either side. The dragon-shaped handle is decorated with leafy scrolls. The circular domed lid has a ventilation hole, and recumbent lion knob. The sides of the pot are decorated with a deeply incised diamond pattern with gilt breadcrumb decoration above and below, also on lid.
