Description

Buff fireclay, hand modelled, with brown, black, dark blue, and cream porcelain details, covered in transparent glaze. Rising from the oval base is a post with two strutts, supporting a rectangular inn sign with two brown scrolls along the top. On the sign is depicted a brown cow, with cream patches, horns, and tail. At the base of the post is a four-legged stool on which sits a bearded man with his right leg crossed over his left. His right hand, holding mug, rests on his right knee. His left hand is on the stool. He wears a brown hat and shoes, whitish-cream smock, and gaiters with black buttons. Beside him is another man, who leans against the post with his right leg crossed over his left. In his right hand he holds a mug of beer, and his left hand is raised to his ear, as if he were slightly deaf. He has a cream beard, a buff hat, a whitish-cream smock, brown shoes, and gaiters with black buttons. Both men have dark blue eyes.
