Description

Earthenware with rouletting on the body, moulded spout,and green lead-glaze, decorated with oil-gilding. The pot has a bulbous oval body, a curved spout with shell moulding round its lower part, a loop handle which is curved on the exterior, and a circular, very slightly domed cover with an oval knob. The body is decorated underglaze with rouletted horizontal dotted lines. On one side, painted in gold overglaze is the name and date 'Ann Morgan 1785' (?, date almost illegible) within a wreath of flowers and foliage; on the reverse there are similar sprays.

History note: Mrs Hemming, Little Brundes, Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells, Kent; sold with another teapot via Mr A.G. Hemming who brought it to his office at 1 King William Street, London, EC on 6 August 1924 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
