The attribution of this tureen is uncertain. Dr Glaisher initially attributed it to Winterthur in his MS Catalogue, but in a later typed version, put 'Swiss or French faience'. Rackham (1935) attributed it to Lenzberg on the basis of the mark C.B. which also occurs on a plate attributed to Lenzburg in the Victoria and Albert Museum (C.133-1930). Ducret (1950) attributed pieces marked CB to the Klug-Hünerwadel factory operating 1762-67, which would be a more likely dating for a tureen of this type.
