Description

Verge watch in an enamelled fish-shaped étui, with the watch set in the head.

MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Du Terte A Paris'. Balance bridge pierced '4C' and engraved, brass end piece, brass end stone. Brass balance. Chased fusee end cock and counter-potance. Silver regulator, scale engraved 1 to 7. Plain blue steel hand. Rectangular fusee iron post. Adjustable potance. Counter-potance with polished steel end piece. Polished steel case bolt in slot in plate, conical end, nib under dial. Pillar plate with four five sided baluster pillars, sunk centre wheel. Third wheel bridge, dial not removed. Fusee and chain, set-up click under dial, barrel with one lip. Verge escapement. Train planted clockwise.

DIAL: White enamel, domed, on copper, two feet. Line minute ring, thick lines at 5 mins., vertical Arabic chapters, plain centre. Winding hole at 4 o'clock.

HANDS: Gold, Breguet type.

CASE: Gold enamelled and set with diamonds. Fish-shaped étui with white enamel scales outlined in gold and decorated with coloured enamel dot and gold. Head two-layer white enamel panels with green mouth and gills, set diamond eyes, pearl set nose. Gills hinged and open to reveal watch dial and back of movement. Body hinged, opening to reveal gold implements. Some implements have a maker's mark 'JiW' in rectangular cameo with chamfered corners and mark of dog's head, facing left, with 'A' at nose and '4' and neck, both unidentified.

STORAGE BOX (A): Dark brown leather covered box, tooled around lid, rectangular with curved top, hinged along long side, two catches. Inside covered in deep red velvet, base with shaped recess for fish.
