Gobelet Hébert et soucoupe from a dejeuner
Factory:
Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory
Painter:
Vielliard, André-Vincent
Soft-paste porcelain cup and saucer, decorated with an underglaze blue ground, a reserve painted in enamels with a genre scene in the style of Teniers, and gilding
Soft-paste porcelain decorated with an underglaze blue ground, painting in blue, several shades of green, yellow, pink, red, pale purple, pale and dark brown enamels, and gilding. The cup has a double-curved outline and entwined branch handle. The base is almost matt and speckled overall. The saucer is circular with concave curving sides, and has a suspension hole in the footring. Both pieces have an underglaze blue ground caillouté in gold. The cup has an approximately heart-shaped reserve enclosed in an elaborate frame, comprising scrolls, a rocaille shell, and panels of trellis diaper. The reserve is painted in polychrome with a peasant girl and a boy playing the bagpipes, seated on a grassy mound in front of a cottage. There are two gold bands round the foot and two round the rim, the upper one dentilated on the interior. The handle has gold upper and lower terminals and two areas of gilding in the middle. The saucer has a circular reserve framed en suite with that on the cup, painted with a peasant boy and girl standing in front of a wooden fence with a cottage behind and a barrel lying on the ground in front of them. Behind and to the right are a church and a bridge in a landscape. There is a gold band round the outer edge of the footring, and two bands round the rim, the upper one dentilated on the exterior.
Part of a dejeuner with a tray, jug, and sugar basin and cover.
