The illustrations of the Liber apologeticus form "the raison d'ĂȘtre of the present publication." The New College ms. includes seven "collocutions" and two "allocutions" on William of Wykeham, by one of Chaundler's cholars. The four illustrations reproduced from it show Winchester College, New College, William of Wykeham surrounded by some of the benefactors and worthies of New College, and the cathedral and bishop's palace of Wells.
