Head of a Child, perhaps Christ
Production: Unknown
Stone, with traces of gesso, painted, and gilt. The head is severed diagonally at the top of the neck. It faces to the front with the eyes open and mouth closed. The wavy hair radiates from the crown of the head, stopping at the sides above and round the ears, and is cut straight across the forehead.
History note: Found by the vendor (Mr D.J. Case) in his garden at Sutton, Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire. It was deposited in the Museum in 1973 and was on loan between 1978 and 2000, when it was acquired by the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum.
